Come live and learn in Scandinavia, and make a difference in the world!

About Ängsbacka

Ängsbacka is a well-known meeting place and course-centre in Sweden for people who want to live a more conscious life and create more harmony in the world. We are about forty people who live here, with another hundred who live in the nearby village Molkom. We are located halfway between Stockholm and Oslo in a beautiful countryside area, where both summer and winter can delight you. We host courses and festivals all year round and have about 6000 visitors per year.

The community has a dynamic international atmosphere as we host between 30 and 150 volunteers depending on the seasons. We are an alcohol and drug-free community. You can read more about Ängsbacka here:

The EVS programme

As an EVS volunteer, you will live in simple rooms with one other volunteer, sometimes more. The community kitchen serves delicious vegetarian food, almost all of it organic, often locally produced and always made with love. Our volunteer programme includes regular movie-nights, yoga and dance sessions, self-development workshops, celebrations and sharing circles.

Since 2017 Ängsbacka has hosted EVS volunteers from all over Europe. The program takes in 15 volunteers at a time and covers food, accommodation and travel costs. All EVS volunteers receive monthly pocket money.

EVS at Ängsbacka 2019

Sustainable food:
Alongside developing our organic garden and integrating our produce into our course and festival menus, we are also experimenting with ways of offering our community and guests more locally grown and sourced, vegan, raw, fermented, and wild foods.
We intend to share our food with the local community by developing the use of our cafe as a pop-up market and community hub where ideas and inspiration for sustainable food and living can flourish.

Eco-village development:
In the area of natural building, we are in the planning stages of building a second home in our forest eco-village site. We have the intention to begin preparing the ground and start building in 2019.

This is an ongoing project that aspires to create a communal living space for those that want to stay longer at Ängsbacka.
Communicating our process and progress with sustainable practices will be an essential part of the EVS experience in 2019, and will incorporate a wide range of skills and competencies from marketing and media, to project and event management.
