European Voluntary Service (EVS)
Come live and learn in Scandinavia, and make a difference in the world!
Ängsbacka is a course and festival centre in northern Europe, located in the beautiful deep forests of Värmland in Sweden, halfway between Stockholm and Oslo. We offer courses and festivals for creative and playful people who want to live a more conscious life, live from the heart and care for our planet.
Our vision is to become a leading meeting point for sustainable human development, and a source of inspiration for social, personal and global well being, bringing to the realization of whom and what we really are beyond thoughts and concepts.
Ängsbacka is run by a staff of approximately twenty people, and between 25 – 40 volunteers that live here all year around.
The EVS programme
The EVS experience offers an international and communal way of living, rich in opportunities for learning and personal development. A variety of activities such as dance, music, men’s and women’s circles, tantric and shamanic practices, massage, open stage and many other creative outlets are on offer on a daily basis.
Since 2017 Ängsbacka has hosted EVS volunteers from all over Europe. The program takes in 15 volunteers at a time and covers food, accommodation and travel costs. All EVS volunteers receive monthly pocket money.
As an EVS volunteer you are asked to contribute 7 hours a day, 5 days a week of volunteer service, in addition to attending all morning meetings, a weekly EVS meeting, Swedish language training and twice weekly sharing groups.
The next EVS project joins in March 2019 and volunteers join for 6 or 12 months.
EVS at Ängsbacka 2019
Communicating our process and progress with sustainable practices will be an essential part of the EVS experience in 2019, and will incorporate a wide range of skills and competencies from marketing and media, to project and event management.
Alongside developing our organic garden and integrating our produce into our course and festival menus, we are also experimenting with ways of offering our community and guests more locally grown and sourced, vegan, raw, fermented, and wild foods.
We intend to share our food with the local community by developing the use of our cafe as a pop-up market and community hub where ideas and inspiration for sustainable food and living can flourish.
In the area of natural building, we are in the planning stages of building a second home in our forest ecovillage site. We have the intention to begin preparing the ground and start building in 2019.
This is an ongoing project that aspires to create a communal living space for those that want to stay longer at Ängsbacka.
